At Tata steel in Velsen, the Netherlands diffractometers of various brands are used continuously to monitor product quality, ore composition, and process parameters. The staff is continuously striving to further extend their knowledge and to furtheer improve their already excellent service level. To this end Tata contracted AJK Analytical Services to set up a training program of four days covering all relevant topics of the (XRD) analyses at Tata steel using X-ray diffraction. These analyses range from phase identification in bulk materials, thru phase identification in thin layers to quantitative phase analysis using Rietveld refinement. During the sessions each topic was discussed in detail and often discussions were very lively. The participants indicated that they gained a significant amount of relevant knowledge on top of what they already knew and that it was time well spent.
